The article from Fugel der Welt magazine speaks for itself:
Ultralight motorgliders have grown up
Taurus is a great achievement, no doubt about it. Since about four weeks I have been using the Taurus as a leader-ship for group-glider-flights and I am now able to give a direct comparison between her and "normal" gliders. During such flights from our base in Serres up to three gliders fly together and participants fly own gliders for longer stretches over the French Alps. Before Taurus, the glider used as the leader of the formation was Calif.
The glide ratio of Taurus is surprisingly good. I reckon it is in the area of the older standard-class gliders such as LS1 f, Pegase itc. This means the glide ratio of 38 at 100 km/h. In thermals the relatively high wing-loading shows. With weak lift the climb is noticably degraded, simmilar to a glider with a full load of water ballast. Of course there is the engine and passanger which you cannot jettison like one does with the water, but this is the whole point, is it not? Anyhow, the aircraft behaves as a true glider and is very pleasant to handle. The engine management is the best I have ever seen in any self launching glider with a retractable engine. The side-by-side seating configuration is excellent for training as well as passanger flights. The communication in the cockpit is a lot more pleasant than with tandem-seating arrangement. Even taller pilots up to 2 meters height have no problem fitting inside the cockpit. There is enough space at the legs as well as overhead. Behind the headrests there is enough space for baggage even for longer cross-country flights. All-in-all a true joymachine!
