Sinus to fly from Greece to Nordkapp and back

The Right Stuff… Ever wondered what it takes to achieve? In today's world, I would say that you need 3 ingredients. Idea & spirit, the equipment & preparation. Michail Anastasiou reports after the jump.

The Idea : A flight of 8500km, from Athens Greece to Nordkapp and back.

Equipment: Pipistrel Sinus NW 912, with 100 liters tank

Preparation: To perform this as safe as possible

To prepare for this flight we just did a ‘local’ flight from Athens to Ajdovscina in Slovenia, to the home land of Pipistrel. Route was via the North West Island of Greece Corfu, a super friendly to the ultralight aircraft international airport, a brief stop to South Italy and then a non-stop flight to Ajdovscina. A total distance of 3000 km (return) & 16 hours of total flight time. 160 liters of fuel used (average fuel consumption 10 liters/hr).

We refueled one time in Athens and one time in Ajdovscina. Careful planning had as missing all the afternoon thunderstorms. The sectors in Greece were done at Flight Level 115 and FL105. True Air speed up there is very noticeable. The aircraft performed without a glitch. The more I fly my Sinus, the more I realize that Pipistrel’s attention to the smallest detail in design, engineering and manufacture contributes to safe and enjoyable flights with an unmatched economy. Really in which aircraft you ever flew, fuel became a non -issue factor?
Athens - Ajdovscina, 200 euros of fuel, return for 2 persons! This is the Right Stuff…
