Aero-Expo at Birrfeld, Switzerland

The 2nd Aero-Expo took place in Switzerland from 20. – 22. August 2010.
With excellent weather (almost too hot) it started on Friday at 27° C and ended on Sunday at a scorching 31°C!
There were about twice as many visitors here as there were in Buochs at the previous expo.
We found out people were quite reluctant to believe the performance data of the Virus SW. So we did a lot of demo flights with potential customers (performed by the Pipistrel's test pilot Nejc). After the flights the customers were usually so impressed that they couldn’t believe what had just happened.
When Nejc performed his flying act at the airshow with the Virus SW (at 300km/h and 10m over the runway steep turns, fast climbs...) people commented that he was a real competitor to the PC 7 army team, if only he changed the colour of the Virus to red! We would like to thank Pipistrel for presenting the Virus SW at our Expo!
There will be some more work to do to really make the people believe in that green jet…
Tine Tomažič, the Pipistrel R&D member and test pilot has also visited the Expo. He is really unbeatable with his knowledge about every screw and pipe on every airplane (and not only on Pipistrel’s airplanes, either…). I don’t know how he gets this wide and detailed knowledge about everything! Also thanks to Tjaša and the driver Žarko who were a great help, always offering a hand when needed.
Together with Tine we did a photo flight with Sinus and Virus SW over Lake Hallwil. There will hopefully be a nice article in the magazine LOOPIN’ in the next or the following issue. LOOPIN’ will be distributed in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. By the way, the journalist whom I took with me for a flight with the Sinus never did a flight without engine before. He was very surprised that we gained altitude without engine!
The presentation for the Swiss market turned out to be a nice success. We presented the Sinus, the Taurus and the Virus SW. I would also like to thank Mr. Felix Ruegg who kindly offered his Taurus to be presented at the Expo!
